Security engineering across web, API and LLM surfaces

Strengthened a healthcare SaaS platform's security posture by addressing findings from a Thoropass-conducted penetration test, implementing targeted security hardening across web, API and LLM surfaces to support HIPAA and SOC 2 compliance objectives.

What I built

  • Enforced server-side function- and object-level authorization across API routes, with responses scoped to role-appropriate fields.
  • Added LLM guardrails against prompt injection by protecting system prompts and sanitizing persisted AI content.
  • Hardened server-side handling of user-defined transformations and data processing.
  • Strengthened transport and token security through HTTPS-only APIs, short-lived JWTs and least-privilege token audiences.
  • Improved browser and file security through Content Security Policy, formula-safe CSV exports and authenticated signed storage URLs.

Claims cohorting: deterministic scoring, AI-assisted explanations

Revenue-cycle teams needed to identify groups of open claims with elevated denial risk and unpaid balances, supported by actionable evidence for daily resolution workflows.

Process flow

  1. Feature extraction
  2. Metrics
  3. Cohort discovery
  4. Live validation
  5. Evidence
  6. AI summaries

What I built

  • Developed a daily, per-client Databricks pipeline over MongoDB for feature extraction, metric calculation and cohort discovery.
  • Implemented incremental processing with checkpoints, a two-day overlap and MongoDB $merge to process only changed claims.
  • Built multidimensional aggregation across payer, claim age, balance, CPT and denial themes, with five deterministic strategies ranking candidates using percentile-based metrics.
  • Revalidated candidates against live open claims and linked them to claim-level audit evidence, using stable fingerprints to maintain consistent pattern identities.
  • Integrated Azure OpenAI exclusively for pattern naming and daily summaries using group-level totals. Scoring remained deterministic and no PHI was sent to the model.

Tech stack

  • Go
  • Python
  • Databricks
  • MongoDB
  • Azure OpenAI
  • Azure
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes

Engineering approach

  • Incremental processing
  • Deterministic, rule-based scoring
  • Multidimensional aggregation
  • Cohort discovery

Engineering approach

Architecture with intent.
Engineering with accountability.

  1. Understand

Clarify user needs, business goals, constraints, risks and measurable success criteria.

  2. Design

Shape architecture and data flows. Build AI-assisted UI prototypes to visualize workflows, gather feedback, refine the solution and define a practical MVP.

  3. Implement

Turn the refined MVP into working software through hands-on engineering and AI-assisted development using tools like Cursor, while retaining technical ownership.

  4. Validate

Keep validation human-led. Review AI-generated code, verify functionality through tests and edge cases, and assess security, performance and observability.

  5. Deliver
